The Secret Whistle is an instrumental musical duo consisting of Dan Friedman and Forest Gallien based out of Eugene, Oregon.
The two met while attending college at the University of Oregon and formed the project shortly after. Their live and recording set up entails bass guitars with various effects (looping, delay, etc.) MPC workstation, mixer, and turntables. The Secret Whistle has released one full length album and two E.P.s within the last two years and are currently working on material for a fourth release to be out later this year. Their style combines subtle elements of hip-hop, dub, ambient, and electronica into a unique synthesis of experimental organic sound and texture. They use various recording methods unique to their genre such as recording and looping live drum samples, layering multiple live bass tracks over each other, and taking samples exclusively from old vinyl records. Their sound is diverse, always progressing and draws on a multitude of artistic influences.
With over 40 recordings under their belt in a few short years The Secret Whistle has no plans of slowing down.
